The Park House Inn, A History
The Park House Inn started out as Horace D. Moore’s home. He built this building in 1857 so that his wife would come live with him in Saugatuck as he continued his business as a lumber man. They eventually had four girls named Pansy, Winnie, Pearl, and Maude. Maude died of scarlet fever, which resulted in the family moving to Allegan after burying Maude at the Saugatuck Cemetery.
Unfortunately, those are the only names provided. Throughout the years the building has been a restaurant, an antique store, a boarding house, a summer hotel, and sometimes a private house.
In 1983, it was restored to what it looks like now. Now zoom forward to 2005, where the current owners, Toni and Rick Owners, took ownership of the Park House Inn.
What About Now?
The Park House Inn is currently owned by Toni and Rick Owners, and resides on 888 Holland St. The floors are the original pine flooring, and the walls are covered with photos and information of the past of the Park House Inn. It’s really quite an interesting place, with the entire place smelling like lilac, and in some rooms you can get a hot tub. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the sunniest room in the building, which is a lovely bathroom with a giant bathtub.
